Chinese Media Amplifies Pakistani Military Claims and Civilian Deaths
Chinese state news agency Xinhua has given prominent coverage to Pakistan’s assertions, reporting that multiple Indian fighter jets were downed and civilians killed during missile strikes conducted by India in the early hours of May 7.
According to unnamed Pakistani military sources cited by Xinhua, at least eight people were reported dead, 35 injured, and two missing following the Indian strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The report further claimed that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down up to five Indian jets and destroyed four Indian quadcopters over airspace violations — statements that have not been independently verified and remain unacknowledged by Indian authorities.
“The Pakistan Air Force has downed another Indian jet in retaliation for India’s missile strikes at six locations within Pakistan,” Xinhua quoted Pakistani military sources as saying.
India’s airstrikes, conducted under Operation Sindoor, were launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. According to India’s defence ministry, the strikes were described as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” deliberately avoiding Pakistani military targets.
